Today, February 18, 2012, we celebrated your first birthday.  Your mother and father did a wonderful job at planning your party.   There was an aunt, and an uncle, great aunts & uncles, cousins & 2nd cousins, 3 grandfathers, 2 grandmothers, 2 great grandmothers, friends and Murphy.

Your mother made a yellow cake & cupcakes with pink, whip cream frosting. You were showered with gifts, and inundated with picture and movie taking.  You held up the entire time.

What a wonderful first year grandma Jeanne has had with you.  How thankful I am for grandchildren who give us all the gift of bringing families together to celebrate, to think outside ourselves, to put aside for a time, any differences or disagreements, and remind us that it is "never" just about one person but the responsibility and privilege of everyone to participate that make a "family".

Happy birthday LillaMai, I love you.

The Stand

LillaMai: "Look grandma, I'm standing!"  Grandma: "What a big girl you are!"

LillaMai: "Yep, I'm a big girl!"

Grandma: "How are you doing over there?"  LillaMai: "I'm busy."

Grandma: "Are you getting tired pumpkin?"  LillaMai: "No, drinking from the cup mom got me."

Grandma: "How are you doing over there?"  LillaMai: "Still drinking." (sigh)

LillaMai: "Grandma?".  Grandma: "What sweetheart?".  LillaMai: "I need help now."

Standing

Today our conversation while playing in the little kitchen set:

Grandma: "LillaMai where is your pan?" 

LillaMai: "Ahhh, eakerrahhh?"

Grandma: "and what happened to the cheese & milk?"

LillaMai: (grins and moves her hands)

Gramdma: "How are we going to make lunch with out cheese and milk?" (looking under the couch and toy basket).

LillaMai "ouah? zobah!...." (pointing her finger in different directions)

And then you stood up beside the couch....and life will never be the same.



LillaMai: See my shoes Murphy?!
Murphy: Yep, they look like they would be fun to chew on! (sniff, sniff)

Your First Car

LillaMai: "Look grandma I have a car!" 

"It has a trunk and an orange thing that goes around and around."

"And see, no hands or feet!"

Grandma thinking (I hope she doesn't drive like her mother use to)

LillaMai: "And I can shift with my foot!."
